Lease calculator
An Excel lease register for lessees applying IFRS 16, for up to ten leases – premises, vehicles and equipment.
What it does
Measures the lease liability and right-of-use asset at commencement, including initial direct costs, lease incentives, prepaid rent and restoration costs.
Handles monthly, quarterly or annual payments in advance or in arrears, fixed annual increases, rent-free months and end-of-term payments such as a purchase option.
Runs a monthly schedule for each lease, with a lease card that shows any lease year by year and month by month.
Gives the reporting year's roll-forwards by lease and by class, the current/non-current split, expenses, total cash outflow, the maturity analysis and ready-to-post journals.
Applies the short-term and low-value exemptions.
What you get
One Excel workbook (.xlsx) with an Instructions tab, the blank template and a completed worked example for a fictitious company.
Clearly marked input cells, protected formulas and built-in checks, with a status line on every tab.
Works in Microsoft Excel 2010 or later (Windows or Mac). No macros.
Scope
Fixed payments with fixed increases only. Index-linked remeasurements, lease modifications and reassessments, lessor accounting, sale and leaseback, foreign currency and deferred tax are outside its scope.
Designed for small and medium-sized businesses reporting under IFRS Accounting Standards. It is a working aid: it does not replace the Standards or professional judgement, and its scope and limitations are set out in the Instructions tab.
