Fixed asset register template

€0.00Price

A free Excel fixed asset register for property, plant and equipment under IAS 16. List each asset or component once and the workbook works out depreciation, impairment, disposals and revaluations for the year and the comparative year, then builds the PPE note by class, the journals and the checks. It comes with a fully worked example for a fictitious bakery.

What it does

  • Sets up to eight asset classes, each on the cost model or the revaluation model, depreciated straight-line, on the reducing balance or not at all (land, assets under construction).

  • Keeps a 50-row register of assets and significant components, such as a building split into its structure, roof and services, with a ready/incomplete status on every row.

  • Depreciates month by month from the date each asset is available for use, with changes in useful life or residual value applied prospectively and impairment losses from your IAS 36 test.

  • Transfers assets under construction into their class when they come into use, so depreciation starts on time.

  • Revalues whole classes at the year end: accumulated depreciation is eliminated, and each increase or decrease is split between OCI and profit or loss asset by asset.

  • Optionally transfers the revaluation surplus to retained earnings as the asset is used, and shows the carrying amount each revalued class would have under the cost model.

  • Calculates the gain or loss on every disposal, including scrapped components replaced during the year.

  • Produces the PPE note by class for both years, the revaluation reserve roll-forward, draft accounting policy wording, the journals for the year and 17 automatic checks.

What you get

  • One Excel workbook (.xlsx) with Instructions, the blank template and a worked example: a fictitious Irish bakery with revalued premises, a roof replacement, an impaired machine, a revised useful life, a van trade-in and a production line under construction.

  • Clearly marked input cells, protected formulas and built-in checks, with a status line on every tab.

  • Works in Microsoft Excel 2010 or later (Windows or Mac). No macros.

Scope

Property, plant and equipment of one company in one currency under IFRS Accounting Standards, with revaluations at a year end. Not covered: partial disposals, reversals of impairment losses, borrowing costs, government grants, assets held for sale, investment property, right-of-use assets, decommissioning costs and deferred tax.

Working on grants or borrowing costs for the same assets? See the Government grants template and the Borrowing costs template. Testing an impairment? Use the CGU impairment template.

Designed for small and medium-sized businesses and their accountants reporting under IFRS Accounting Standards. It is a working aid: it does not replace the Standards or professional judgement, and its scope and limitations are set out in the Instructions tab.
